Peter Cooper
Marigaux Oboe
Principal Oboist of the Colorado Symphony, Peter Cooper has taught and performed as soloist with orchestras in Asia, Europe and the United States. He previously held positions in the San Francisco Symphony and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Peter Cooper is on the faculty of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Peter Cooper has commissioned and premiered 5 oboe concertos. His discography include the David Mullikin and Richard Strauss Concertos with Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the Heinrich Schweizer Oboe Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also recorded, "Whispers of the Past" for Oboe and Harp. These recordings have received international critical acclaim. A prize winner in the Tokyo International Oboe Competition, Mr. Cooper has been guest Principal Oboist of the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota and on their American tour of 2002. A graduate of Northwestern University, he studied with Ray Still and Gladys Elliot. He has been featured as Principal Oboist of the Grand Teton Music Festival, Strings in the Mountains, St. Bart’s Music Festival among other summer festivals.
